So a good friend of mine in the photography industry was showing me some of her work and it had a really soft, light looking feel to it and I wanted to see if I could replicate some of it. :) My style is so much more contrasty than hers so it was fun to step outside what I normally do and try something new. Thankful to have a wife who will go on a walk with me and deal with me taking pictures of her the whole time :)

Senior Pictures are around the corner and this year I am really excited for my sports shots. When I look back at the senior pictures that I had when I graduated and quite frankly most senior pictures now that involve sports, I want to laugh. When I think of sports, I think of hard work and competition, but for some reason senior pictures almost never seem to catch that. Instead we get these super metro pictures of guys laying on their backs in the grass with a polo on holding on to a nice clean and probably polished football... What a joke! Hopefully these pictures inspire a change in the current "senior picture" trend. Looking forward to a new season of sports photography! Book your date for this summer now!

A lot has happened over this last year. Getting married definitely the highlight of it but... graduating from UNL will be right up there as well. I am counting down the days till I get that piece of paper and can get on with my life ;) In only about three weeks I'll be done! I plan to focus all my attention on photography and finally market myself. Its been interesting how God has really provided for me while I've been in school. I've only really marketed my business a few times because I haven't had time to do it while I've been in school. The amazing thing is that God has provided enough business for me to pay my bills off and get out of school debt free. I'm really amazed and thankful for such a faithful God.

I have been putting in a lot of time in the studio working on my new and upcoming website. I am hoping to get a whole new portfolio out in a few months and show Nebraska a whole new type photography. There are a ton of photographers around Nebraska, but they are mostly all the same. I haven't seen too many people pushing the limits and I hope to fill that spot here soon! ;) One of the new areas within my business that has been growing is modeling. I have done a lot of seniors this last year and decided to take it a step further and do some portfolios for models around Nebraska. Its been fun working with people who are used to the studio life and love getting pictures taken of themselves! Again.. these photos will be up when my new website is ready!

A lot of exciting things are around the corner and I'm excited to finally have time to pursue what I love! Keep posted over the next few months.

Oh! and.. If you know of anyone who wants band or sports photos taken let me know!

This weekend I was watching the show River Monsters, and as a result, I had to go fish for myself. It was already late in the evening so I decided to go hunting for some catfish at a nearby lake. It ended up being a beautiful evening under the bright stars! Kristen and I made a little fire and relaxed the night away. Unfortunately I never caught a fish... Not sure what was up with that, but it was a good time regardless! Check out the stars in the first picture! Amazing...

In four days I get the incredible privilege of getting married to this beautiful girl. I've waited 23 years to find this girl and I am so excited to spend the rest of my life with her. Its nice to finally be on the other side of the wedding camera. I've been jealous of all the couples at the weddings I have gone to where I am taking the pictures... now I finally get to be on the other side of it and I am going to enjoy every minute of it ;)

The Russell family celebrated their 50th Anniversary by reenacting the shootout at the OK Corral. This was a lot different than the typical "reception hall 50th anniversary"! It was refreshing to see a marriage that has lasted the test of time and also a family that is still in love as well. I have a lot of respect for this family!

This weekend I proposed to my girlfriend! Usually I am the one taking pictures of the people who are getting proposed to...Its nice to finally be on the other side of it! Here it is...

There are a lot of little details that I won't include in this because frankly not many of you probably care thaaat much about all the little things, but I'll do my best to tell you the story. The idea of proposing happened at the beginning of this last week. My ultimate goal was to surprise Kristen with the proposal. I wanted that more than anything else so I decided to keep simplicity in mind while also adding a little elegance as well.

Since she loves volleyball I snagged some sweet courtside tickets to the Huskers/Texas game at 1:00. It was funny because she came over to my place around 11:00 AM and said, "Did you know the Huskers are playing today against Texas? Its on TV". I then asked her who she said was playing and a bunch of other ridiculous questions about the game as if I didn't know anything. After she went on about all the details I then stopped her and pulled out the tickets for the game and she went nuts! Good thing I told her to wear her huskers shirt so that we could be in the "husker spirit" for the game day cuz we ended up being on TV several times since we were basically on the court! After the game she went back to her place to get ready for a night on the town. I told her that we were going to Omaha and that I wanted us to finally dress up really nice and really go out for once. She got back to my place around 5:30 and we too off for Omaha. I brought my cameras and camcorder along (obviously to take pictures of our proposal) and told Kristen that I needed to drop them off at Justin's place because he needed to document some stuff with his son and that we'd pick it back up on the way home. lol. She bought it. We got to V.Merts around 6:30. This place was L.E.g.I.T! I have never eaten at a place so nice in my life. We both ordered salmon. I really liked the place and would love to go there again some time in my life! The food was amazing, but my mind was already thinking about the proposal the entire time. I had to try really hard to keep conversation normal and not look like I was spacing out the whole time! Everything seemed pretty normal up to this point. While we were eating I asked her what she wanted to do (as if I really cared or would have changed my plan lol). She didnt' care.. I pretended like I just thought up the idea of going to the area behind Con Agra where there is a huge lake with a beautiful fountain. haha.. I am so sneaky.. or so I thought. This is when I seriously was about ready to have a heart attack. On the walk over to the park I acted like I didn't know how far it was so I texted Justin and Jared (really saying that we were heading over) "asking them how far it was". I was sooo nervous. When we got to the spot I was getting ready to take out a note that I wrote for her, but suddenly she was like, "Oh hey... this is a sweet bench! Look at all the engravings on it. We should write something on it!" Sweeeeet timing... Not only that, but she literally took about 10 minutes to etch a heart with our initials in it. Yes its a sweet idea and I love it now, but at that point I was about ready to freak out cuz I just wanted to propose!! After she finally finished her art work I pulled out the note and read it to her. After that I got down on my knee and proposed. Here's the kicker... at the end of my note I wrote "will you marry me" (not sure why...maybe I thought I'd get so nervous that I'd forget to ask or something..idk?), well she saw it at the end of the paper and was basically just waiting the entire time I was ready the paper to ask it.. I kinda lost the surprise factor there haha... but when all was said and done she said..."of course!". I guess that is just as good as a yes ;)

Today I got pretty caught up with my finances and worrying about my future... I am not sure why I let it get the best of me today, but it did. I hope worrying about your future hasn't gotten the best of you today. I think as we get older things like money, our outward appearance (cars, our house, our job), and who our friends are gets more and more important. I hate to admit it, but I can feel the pressures in my life every day. I can choose to listen to them and never feel content...or live life each day in the steps God has set before me in pure excitement to see where He leads me and what He chooses to bless me with. As I was thinking about all this the song "It Is Well" came into my head. The line "Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say, It is well with my soul...", put all the anxieties of finances and my future behind me! God is good. He will provide and is...we just have to see it and stop thinking so much ;)

haha.. all I can do is laugh when I see these pictures. These last two pics are of a video my high school small group was part of making. Sadly I didn't get more pictures of the entire group because I was in the video, but this should give you an idea of how crazy it was. haha.. We tried to replicate "I believe in a thing called love" by the Darkness. Each small group will make a video on an 80's rock group and then we will have them all judged and hopefully we win.

Every time I'm at the Mill I have wanted to take this picture! Finally..

After the Mill I headed for the scrap yard across the railroad tracks. I made it far enough to see this monster magnet machine, but shortly after I started hearing all these walkie talkies going off...then I see two guys literally jogging towards me haha. They were really freaking out at this point and were all up in my face asking me why I was taking pictures. They were VERY worried about this. I then proceeded to ask them if I could see another machine that crushed the cars and completely ignored their previous question... haha They both just looked at me and then one guy was like.."Well you definitely can't see it since you have a camera!" I just looked at him with a blank stare for a second and then turned around and left in silence. I mean what do you say to that?! I think somethings going down there and I almost busted them. I really think more photographers should head over there and see what happens lol. Think if every day a new photographer showed up haha. . So yea that was exciting..
